Plot of the change in radius RA − rA of the minority atom on alloying versus RA/RB for 50 SiCr3-type compounds. rA is the radius of the A atom in the structure and is calculated from the lattice parameter as (51/2-1)a/4. The points can be fitted to an equation RA − rA = −2.002 + 2.544(RA/RB) − 0.675(RA/RB)2. Lattice parameters of new compounds of the same structure type can be estimated with good accuracy from the observed correlation, as demonstrated in Table 2. |
