Synopsis: In Bi₂B₈O₁₅, the Bi atom is coordinated to five or six O atoms. The B atoms exhibit two kinds of hybridization, sp² and sp³, seen in the BO₃ triangles and BO₄ tetrahedra, respectively. Three BO₃ triangles are connected to form a B₃O₆ planar ring. All atoms in the structure are connected together to form an infinite three-dimensional network.

New girdle-like Mo₁₈ polyanions linked into chains

Synopsis: The structure of the polyoxomolybdate [Na $_{6}^{+}$ (H₂O)₁₆(NH₂CH₂COO) $_{2}^{-}$ ]⁴⁺·{Na⁺[H₉Mo $_{10}^{\rm VI}$ Mo $_{8}^{\rm V}$ O₅₆(NH₂CH₂COO) $_{2}^{-}$ ]^5-}^4-·20H₂O is reported. The 18 Mo atoms connected by O atoms form a centrosymmetric girdle-like structure, in which Mo^V-Mo^V units are found. An Na⁺ cation occupies the central hole of the girdle, while four Na⁺ cations are bonded to O atoms on the girdle edge. The girdles are linked into a one-dimensional chain by the remaining Na⁺ cations.
