Synopsis: A single crystal, 3 × 1.5 × 1 mm, of Cd₃Zn₃(BO₃)₄ has been prepared by spontaneous nucleation and its strong second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG laser radiation ( 1064 nm) has been observed.

Synopsis: A new hydrated double salt, YbCd₃Cl₉·15H₂O, has been synthesized, and its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and compared with that of CeCd₄Cl₁₁·13H₂O. The structure of the ytterbium compound contains a layered arrangement of Cd octahedra, with a decrease of the coordination number of the rare-earth cation from nine for Ce³⁺ to eight for Yb³⁺.

It has a layered structure containing three- and nine-membered rings built from GeO₄ and BO₃F tetrahedra. The layers are connected through hydrogen bonding via diprotonated piperazine cations located between the layers.
