Abstract: The structure of dilanthanum ruthenium pentoxide was solved by powder neutron diffraction at room temperature and 1.5 K. High-temperature La2RuO5 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c. Upon cooling, the sample undergoes a phase transition to the triclinic low-temperature form (space group P
). This transition leads to pronounced changes in the Ru-O-Ru bond distances, resulting in a dimerization of the ruthenium ions.
Formula: La2RuO5 and La4Ru2O10
