Cover illustration: Poly[([mu]3-1,1-dioxo-1,2-benzoisothiazole-3-thiolato)silver(I)] consists of dinuclear units in which two thiosaccharinate anions each bridge two Ag atoms via an endocyclic N atom and an exocyclic S atom across a crystallographic centre of inversion midway between the Ag atoms. The dimeric units are connected via Ag-Sexo interactions to create two-dimensional networks. See Dennehy, Quinzani & Burrow [Acta Cryst. (2007), C63, m395-m397].

In Sr(BF4)2, which is isomorphous with the previously published Ca(BF4)2, the metal atom is eight-coordinated with a square-antiprismatic environment. Each tetrafluoridoborate anion is bonded to four metal centers. In the barium derivative, the metal center, with symmetry 2/m, is surrounded by 14 F atoms. The B atom and two of the three independent F atoms occupy special positions with symmetry m. Each anion is connected to five Ba atoms.

In the nearly tetrahedral rhenate(VII) anion of calcium chloride rhenate(VII) dihydrate, all constituent atoms lie on special positions of m2m (Re) and m (O) site symmetries. The Cl anion and water O atom lie on special positions of m2m and 2 site symmetry, respectively. The Ca2+ ion, also on a special position (m2m), is eight-coordinated in a distorted square-antiprismatic coordination mode. The crystal has a layered structure stabilized by Ca—O coordination bonds as well as O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

A new compound, B13N2, has been synthesized under high pressure. It crystallizes in the R\overline{3}m space group and features distorted B12 icosahedra linked by N—B—N chains, giving rise to a three-dimensional framework.

Acta Crystallographica Section C is planning special issues on

The Structural Chemistry of Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Catalysts

NMR Crystallography.

Full details are available on the special issues page.

The latest virtual issue, featuring Coordination polymers and with an introduction by Len Barbour, was published in July 2014.

What are the 'most read' articles from the recent special issues?
