Report of the Fifth Slovenian-Croatian Crystallographic Meeting

The fifth joint meeting of Slovenian and Croatian crystallographers was held in Terme Zrece, Slovenia, from 13-15 June 1996. The meeting was organised by the Slovenian Crystallographic Society and Croatian Crystallographic Association and co-chaired by Prof. Ljubo Golic and Prof. Boris Kamenar. The financial sponsors of the meeting were the Ministry of Science and Technology of Slovenia, the Faculty of Chemistry and the Chemical Technology and National Institute of Chemistry. The meeting was also supported by the local companies Terme, Unior and Comet.

The scientific programme included five invited plenary lectures presented by:

Zelimir Blazina (Zagreb): The Rare Earth Based Intremetallics - A Scientist's Paradise
Jurij V. Brencic (Ljubljana): Structural Studies of the Halopyridine Complexes of Trivalent Elements
Howard D. Flack (Geneva): Mastering Least-squares Refinement
Heinz Föllner (Clausthal): Correspondence between Structure and Morphology and Twin Formation
Peter Panjan (Ljubljana): Interfacial Reaction in Multilayer Structures Studied with XTM and XRD techniques

Altogether 67 crystallographers participated at the meeting and they presented 51 oral contributions dealing with all aspects of crystallography and its applications in fundamental research, protein research and material science. Abstracts of the lectures and oral contributions were published in the Book of Abstracts. The participants also enjoyed a pleasant trip to Rogla on the green hills of Pohorje.

The Sixth Croatian-Slovenian Crystallographic Meeting will be held in the spring of 1997 in Croatia.
