Log scale of the X-ray fluorescence spectrum of a Cas9–RNA–DNA crystal recorded at an incident energy of 4.1 keV. The measured spectrum is plotted as black dots and the fit as black (total) and coloured (for different elements) lines. The main contributions (orange) originate from the potassium Kα1,2 (KLIII and KLII) and Kβ1 (KMIII) characteristic lines. The smaller (orange) peaks between 1.5 and 2 keV represent the K–Si escape peaks and are an artifact of the measurement (Papp & Campbell, 2001BB28). The Si peak (green line) originates from the crystal holder.
