The HCD. (a) The HCD is shown with the sample-loading port (foreground) and robot-transfer ports open. The sample-loading port allows the loading of new pucks without interupting robotic operations. The rotation motor is located at the centre outside the dewar in order to reduce mechanical blockage owing to icing. (b) Inside the HCD. One of the eight cells each with three positions for SPINE pucks is shown. The LN2 level is maintained at ±5 mm from the top of the puck. (c) Image of a puck from the dewar camera. The image allows the barcodes to be read and the presence or absence of pins, pucks and vials to be determined.
