(a) One half of the molecules related by the fourfold axis (black rod) forms a left-handed fourfold screw axis of three complete turns along the c axis. Successive molecules are translated by c/12. A subset of these molecules is related by a (right-handed) 41 axis (green) connecting symmetry mates. In fact, all like-coloured molecules are related by a 41 axis. (b) The other half of the molecules related by the fourfold axis also forms a left-handed helix, which incorporates a 41 axis (yellow), connecting two different symmetry mates in an alternating pattern. |
