2,2'-Dihydroxychalcone

S. Kashino, M. Tanaka and T. D. Todorov

Abstract: In the title compound, alternatively called 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-propen-1-one, C15H12O3, intermolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds are formed between molecules related by a center of symmetry, and the dimer is planar as a whole. The dimers are stacked along the shortest axis to form a column. In the column, the C=C double bonds related by another center of symmetry approach the shortest C...C distance of 3.482 Å. The intermolecular hydrogen bonds and a chevron structure in the crystal may prohibit topochemical reaction.
