Abstract: In the title compound, C₂₄H₂₀P⁺·C₁₆H₂₀B₉^-, the presence of the C₂ spacer of the phenylethynyl group reduces the intramolecular crowding between the two phenyl groups of the carborane-cage anion. The position of the B atom connected to both cage C atoms is disordered.
