Abstract: The structure of strontium magnesium diphosphate, SrMgP2O7, belongs to the
-Ca2P2O7 isotypical pyrophosphates series SrMP2O7 (M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn). MgII atoms occupy square-pyramidal coordination and are isolated in the structure. [MgO5] units and the [P2O7] groups form a three-dimensional framework with channels along [100] and [010], in which are located Sr2+ ions.
