Abstract: The asymmetric unit in the crystal structure of the monoclinic form of 6-phenylhex-5-ene-2,4-dione, C12H12O2, consists of two independent molecules. Both molecules exist in the enolized form and show a strong asymmetric intramolecular hydrogen bond. The intermolecular C-H
O contacts represent the most prominent feature of the crystal packing of the compound.
