Abstract: In the title compound, C₅H₁₂NO₂⁺·C₂Cl₃O₂^-, the valine molecule is in a cationic state and the trichloroacetic acid is in the anionic state. In the crystal, the intermolecular N-HO and O-HO hydrogen bonds link the molecules to form an infinite two-dimensional network parallel to (001).
