N-(Carboxymethyl)aspartic acid

Abstract: The title molecule, C₆H₉NO₆, exists in a zwitterionic form. The transfer of the H atom to the N atom involves two carboxyl groups and, as a result, their H atoms are disordered. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-HO, N-HO and C-HO hydrogen bonds.
