Abstract: Molecules of the title compound, C17H16O3, are linked via intermolecular C-H...O hydrogen bonds into infinite chains, made up of centrosymmetric bimolecular aggregates stretching along the a axis of the crystal. The 4-methylbenzene group and the carbonyl moiety are almost coplanar, and the dihedral angle between the planes of 2-(4-methylbenzoyloxy) and 5-methylacetophenone is 78.81  (5)°.
