(4RS,5RS)-4-Benzyl-5-(4-tolylthiocarbonyl)oxazolidin-2-one

W. Clegg and M. R. J. Elsegood

Abstract: The title compound, C18H17NO3S, is the product of an epoxidation reaction, followed by cyclization and hydrolysis of the resulting epoxide. There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit; one has a slightly twisted heterocyclic ring, and the ring in the other is almost planar. Molecules form centrosymmetric pairs through N-H...O=C hydrogen bonds, involving the carbonyl group in the ring.
