N-(p-Chlorophenyl)maleamic acid

Abstract: The title molecule, C₁₀H₈ClNO₃, is nearly planar, with the mean planes through the p-chlorophenyl and maleamic acid groups inclined at an angle of 4.45  (1)° to each other. Symmetry-related molecules are linked by N-HO, C-HO and C-HCl intermolecular hydrogen bonds, to form molecular layers parallel to the bc plane.
