Abstract: The structure of the title compound {systematic name: 1-[2-(2-naphthyl)-2-(propoxyimino)ethyl]-4,5-dihydroimidazol-3-iumchloride}, C18H20N3O+·Cl-, is stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The naphthalene moiety and the imidazole ring are essentially planar. The imidazole N2 atom is protonated and is connected to the Cl- anion through a hydrogen bond [Cl
N2 = 3.004 (2) Å]. The configuration of the cation is Z.
