2-[2'-(Phenylsulfonyl)ethyl]cyclopentanone

Abstract: The structure of the title compound, C₁₃H₁₆O₃S, prepared by the reaction of the lithium enolate of cyclopentanone with phenylvinyl sulfoxide and subsequent oxidation with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA), shows the phenylsulfonylethyl side chain to be bonded to the cyclopentanone ring in a pseudo-equatorial orientation.
