Abstract: The title compound, alternatively named diethyl 4-(4-bromophenyl)-6-methylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylate, C20H18BrNO4S, crystallizes with two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular and intramolecular C-H
O hydrogen bonds. The thieno[2,3-b]pyridine moiety is planar.
