Abstract: In the title compound, C14H28Br2, the molecule is centrosymmetric and the molecular skeleton, including both terminal Br atoms, has an all-trans conformation. In the crystal structure, the molecules form layers in which the long axes of the molecules are inclined with respect to the layers. The molecules are arranged in a zigzag manner in the neighboring layers, making a herring-bone motif just as in the tilt-smectic C phase of liquid crystals.
