Abstract: The title compound, C30H18N4O6, is formed when two 4-nitro-2-pyridyl units link, in a trans fashion, to the two O atoms of optically active (S)-BINOL (1,1'-bi-2-naphthol). The molecule exhibits some dramatic deviations from planarity due to the steric hindrance caused by the presence of the two nitropyridyloxyl moieties. C-H
O hydrogen bonding between adjacent molecules links them into a chain-like structure.
