Abstract: In the title compound, [Pt(C10H8N2)(C11H11N2)2](ClO4)4, the square-planar PtN4 coordination geometry is slightly deformed, with the coordinated N atom of one of the N-methyl-4,4'-bipyridinium (MQ) ligands 0.262 (8) Å out of the plane defined by the rest of the coordinated N atoms and the Pt atom. The exceptional behavior of this MQ ligand is interpreted in terms of the electrostatic interactions between the positively charged MQ ligands and the perchlorate anions, where the N(MQ)
O(perchlorate) distances are in the range 2.932 (12)-3.259 (13) Å.
