The molecule is monoclinic, C2/c, with a=20.4621(14)\%A, b=8.6575(6)\%A, c=20.9787(14)\%A, beta=102.3420(10)\%, alpha=gamma=90\%, V=3630.5(4)\%A^3^, Z=4, and R=0.0293. ; _publ_section_comment ; In many years we used trans-Fe~(C~O)~3~(Ph~2~P~py)~2 as neutral organometallic tridentate ligand and reacted with metal compounds to yield a series of homo- and heterobinuclear complexes(Zhang, Z.-Z. and Cheng H., 1996). Because of the important role of hemlablie ligands containing a combination of soft and hard donor atom, we used Ph~2~P~CH~2~C~O~Ph(Braunstein, P. et al., 1986) as ligand to synthesize trans-Fe~(C~O)~3~(Ph~2~P~CH~2~C~O~Ph)~2. In the literature, trans-Fe~(C~O)~3~(P)~2 (P = phosphine ligand) was synthesized under basic condition,therefore some phosphine ligand containing COOH, etc can't be used to form trans-Fe~(C~O)~3~(P)~2. In this paper we described a new method(Cui, D.-J., et al., 2003) to synthesize trans-Fe~(C~O)~3~(Ph~2~P~CH~2~C~O~Ph)~2 and its crystal structure. In our method, KOH reacted with Fe~(C~O)~5 to give K~H~(C~O)~4, after stirring for 30min H~2~S~O~4 was added, and phosphine was added just after the H~2~S~O~4 addition. The mixture was stirred for 2h, the desired product could be obtain in high yield. The X-ray structure of the title compound shows that the iron atom possesses a trigonal bipyramidal configuration. The PFeP unit has the expected dimensions with Fe-P distances of 2.2113(4)\%A and 2.2113(4)\%A and a P-Fe-P angle of 178.86(3)\%, which is some deviation from linearity. The iron atom and the three carbonyl groups are in the same plane. The angle C(21)-Fe(1)-C(22) (122.58(13)\%) is larger than angles C(21)-Fe(1)-C(21A) (118.71(3)\%). The Fe-C-O units are nearly linear. ; _publ_section_exptl_prep ; Synthesis was carried out under Ar atmosphere. After the mixture of KOH(0.26g, 4.6mmol) and Fe~(C~O)~5 (0.3ml, 2.3mmol) in CH~3~OH (20ml) was stirred for 30min, H~2~S~O~4 (0.46g, 4.6mmol) in 10ml CH~3~OH and Ph~2~P~CH~2~C~O~Ph (1.39g, 4.6mmol) in 5ml CH~2~Cl~2 was added. After stirred for 2h, the yellow solid was collected by filtration and dried in vacuo. Yield 1.43g (83%). ; _publ_section_figure_captions ; Fig. 1.
