Abstract: In the title compound, [Co(C3H7NO2)2(H2O)4](NO3)2, the CoII atom lies on a crystallographic inversion centre and the asymmetric unit comprises the anion and one-half cation. CoII is coordinated by six O atoms, two from alanine molecules and four from water molecules, forming an octahedron with minimal distortion. The O atoms of the nitrate group do not coordinate to cobalt but participate in hydrogen bonding.
