Abstract: The title compound, (C3H12N2)[CdI4] [abbreviated (MEDA)CdI4], contains isolated N-methylethylenediammonium cations and tetrahedral tetraiodidecadmate(II) anions, forming segregated layers. Hydrogen bonding between cations and anions provides three-dimensional stability to the crystal structure.
