Abstract: The title compound (Hbpbp), C₃₆H₄₀N₆O, is a phenol with one intramolecular bifurcated hydrogen bond. This result furnishes an explanation as to why the otherwise symmetric deprotonated ligand shows a propensity for forming asymmetric, e.g. heterovalent and heterometallic, coordination compounds.
