2-(2-Oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)butyramide

Abstract: The title compound, C₈H₁₄N₂O₂, also known as levetiracetam and (-)-(S)--ethyl-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetamide, was synthesized from L-methionine. The pyrrolidinone ring has a half-chair conformation. Screw-related molecules are linked by N-HO hydrogen bonds to form layers parallel to the bc plane.
