Abstract: The title compound, [Dy₂(C₄H₅O₂)₆(C₁₂H₈N₂)₂]·2H₂O, crystallizes as dimeric units with an inversion center. Each Dy atom is nine-coordinate, by seven O atoms from trans-2-butenoate groups and two N atoms from a phenanthroline molecule. The dimer is quadruply bridged by trans-2-butenoates (two [eta] ¹: [eta] ¹: [mu] ₂ and two [eta] ²: [eta] ¹: [mu] ₂ bridges). The intradimer DyDy separation is 3.9003 (5) Å.
