(Z)-3-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-2-propenoic acid

Abstract: In the crystal structure of the title compound, C₁₈H₁₈O₆, molecules are connected by strong O-HO hydrogen bonds to form centrosymmetric dimers. The angle C_aryl-C_vinyl-C_vinyl is considerably larger (130.2°) than could be expected (ca 120°). This is attributed to steric interactions. The structure of the title compound provides a basis for the assignment of the stereoisomers of 3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-2-propenal.
