Benzoylmethyltriphenylphosphonium hydrogen maleate: supramolecular layer formation due to C-HO interactions

Abstract: The molecule of the title salt, C₂₆H₂₂OP⁺.C₄H₃O₄^-, consists of a benzoylmethyltriphenylphosphonium cation (HBPPY) and a hydrogen maleate anion. Owing to a strong O-HO intraionic hydrogen bond, each hydrogen maleate ion forms a ring, described by the graph-set notation S₁¹(7). Several C-HO interactions are present between the cations and anions and contribute to the stabilization of the crystal structure.
