(2SR,3SR,4RS)-tert-Butyl 2,3-dihydroxy 4-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)aminohexanoate

Abstract: The reaction of -(N-t-butoxycarbonyl)amino-,-ethylenic esters with OsO₄ yields the corresponding ,-dihydroxy compounds with good diastereoselectivity. The crystal structure of the major stereomer, (2SR,3SR,4RS)-Me₂CHCH(NHCO₂^tBu)CHOHCHOHCO₂^tBu, C₁₆H₃₁NO₆, shows that the relative stereochemistry of the CHO-CHO-CHN sequence is anti-syn.
