Dichlorobis(4-pyridone-O)cobalt(II)

Abstract: The Co atom in the title complex, [CoCl₂(C₅H₅NO)₂], has a distorted tetrahedral coordination involving two Cl^- ions and two O atoms of two 4-pyridone ligands. The Co atom occupies a special position with twofold rotation symmetry. A layer structure is formed by N-HCl intermolecular hydrogen bonds and - stacking interactions of adjacent pyridone rings.
