Betamethasone dipropionate

Abstract: The title compound (systematic name: 9-fluoro-11,17,21-trihydroxy-16-methyl-3,20-dioxopregna-1,4-diene-17,21-diyl dipropionate, BMDP), C₂₈H₃₇FO₇, crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P2₁2₁2₁. The overall shape of the steroid skeleton is similar to that of other anti-inflammatory steroids. Ring A is planar due to the 1,4-dien-3-one moiety, rings B and C have normal chair conformations and ring D adopts an envelope conformation.
