Abstract: The crystal structure of the title compound, C₃₅H₅₂O₇, obtained by the Lewis-acid-catalysed acetolysis of sarsasapogenin, confirms that the configuration around the double bond of the side chain is E and that of the chiral C atom to this double bond is S. This geometry is in agreement with NMR data.
