N-Phthaloyl-DL-alanine

Abstract: In the title compound [systematic name: DL-2-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)propanoic acid], C₁₁H₉NO₄, the propanoic acid and planar phthaloyl moieties adopt a staggered conformation. Molecules crystallize as centrosymmetric dimers linked by carboxyl O-HO hydrogen bonds [OO = 2.6005  (12)  Å and O-HO = 174.8  (15)°].
