Abstract: Ionic self-assembly of the azobenzene dye Orange G with the surfactant tetradecylammonium bromide leads to the title compound, 2C₁₇H₃₈N⁺·C₁₆H₁₀N₂O₇S₂^2-·1.8H₂O, which has an unusual highly regular nanostructure with ionic layers and with alternating dye and surfactant stacks.
