Abstract: The title compound, C₂₂H₁₈O₂, was synthesized by the reaction of methyl (2-hydroxyphenyl)acetate and benzyl chloride. In the crystal structure, the dihydrobenzofuran-2-one ring system lies on a crystallographic mirror plane.
