Abstract: The hydrothermal reaction of 3-aminopyridine and cadmium(II) chloride in alkaline aqueous solution gave rise to the title complex, [CdCl2(C5H6N2)4]. The CdII atom is six-coordinate with a distorted octahedral geometry and the Cl- ions are in trans positions. The Cd atom lies on an inversion centre and the asymmetric unit contains two aminopyridine ligands and one Cl- ion.
