6-Chloro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-7,8-dimethoxy-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-3-benzazepine

Abstract: The title compound, C₁₉H₂₂NClO₃, was synthesized by an intramolecular condensation reaction of N-[2-hydroxy-2-(methoxyphenyl)ethyl]-2-(2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethylamine in trifluoroacetic acid with 36 N H₂SO₄ at room temperature and obtained in 69% yield. The crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction shows normal bond lengths and angles. The seven-membered ring adopts a half-chair conformation.
