Abstract: The title compound, C₁₁H₁₉NO₄, is a precursor for the preparation of (1S,2R,4R)-4-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopentanol, which is an important carbocyclic analogue of -2-deoxyribosylamine. The crystal packing of the title compound is stabilized by intermolecular O-HO hydrogen bonds.
