Tris(phenanthroline-[kappa]2N,N')nickel(II) dibromosuccinate heptahydrate

D.-X. Li, D.-J. Xu and Y.-Z. Xu

Abstract: The crystal structure of the title compound, [Ni(C12H8N2)3](C4H2Br2O4)·7H2O, consists of discrete nickel(II) complex cations, dibromosuccinate dianions and uncoordinated water molecules. The NiII atom is surrounded by three phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octahedral geometry. The overlapped arrangement and short face-to-face distances of 3.525  (12) and 3.369  (5)  Å between parallel phen planes of neighboring complexes indicate [pi]-[pi] stacking. The dibromosuccinate dianions are located on inversion centers and are linked to uncoordinated water molecules via hydrogen bonds.
