Abstract: The title compound, C16H14O3, crystallizes in the triclinic system, with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit; these are related by a non-crystallographic twofold rotation axis. The two molecules differ slightly in the relative orientation of the two aromatic rings. They are linked by C-H
interactions to form a dimer and O-H
O hydrogen bonds link the dimers into chains along the c axis. C-H
interactions interlink the chains into a three-dimensional network.
