Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C₈H₇NO₅, contains two crystallographically independent molecules. In both molecules, an intramolecular hydrogen bond exists between the hydroxyl group and the O atom of the carbonyl group. The molecules are stacked, with weak - interactions, along the a axis.
