A new Schiff base copper (II) complex: bis[N-(4-hydroxysalicylidene)-N',N'-diethylethylenediamine-²N,O]bis[(oxalato-²O,O')copper(II)] dihydrate

Abstract: The synthesis and characterization of a copper(II) complex of salicylaldimine, [Cu₂(C₂O₄)₂(C₁₃H₂₀N₂O₂)₂]·2H₂O, is described. The reaction of 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and N,N-diethylethylenediamine with K₂[Cu(C₂O₄)₂] produces a centrosymmetric binuclear Cu^II complex. Its structure reveals that the copper(II) ion is five-coordinate and situated in a distorted square-pyramidal environment.
