(Hydridotripyrazolylborato)iodo{(1,2,5,6-)-1-[(Z)-1-iodo-2-phenylethenyl]cycloocta-1,5-diene}ruthenium(II)-diiodine (2/1)

Abstract: The title compound, [Ru(C₉H₁₀BN₆)I(C₁₆H₁₇I)]·0.5I₂, is a cocrystal of an iodine-bearing neutral ruthenium complex and diiodine. The centrosymmetric diiodine molecule links a pair of Ru complexes via halogen bonds to the Ru-bound iodide anions, thus forming a linear II-II chain, with II distances of 2.837 (1) Å for the inner bond and 3.486 (1) Å for the two outer interactions. The C-bound iodine interacts with the electrons of two pyrazole rings but does not take part in any II interactions.
