Sodium methylenediphosphonate, Na(HO₃PCH₂PO₃H₂)

Abstract: The title compound, poly[sodium(I)-₆-methylenediphosphonato], [Na(CH₅O₆P₂)]_n, has been synthesized, and characterized by single-crystal diffraction methods and spectroscopic studies. It has a three-dimensional structure in which the Na⁺ ions (site symmetry ) are octahedrally coordinated by O atoms of the methylene diphosphonate moieties.
