Abstract: The title compound, C₂₉H₁₆F₁₂S₂, a photochromic dithienylethene, is a potential material for optical storage. It adopts a photo-active antiparallel conformation in the single crystalline phase. The distance between the two reactive C atoms is 3.624 (8) Å. The molecule has crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry. The dihedral angles between the cyclopentene ring and the attached thiophene and benzene rings are 47.2 (2) and 17.9 (2)°, respectively.
