A trinuclear mixed-valence manganese carboxylate: tris(acetic acid-[kappa]O)-[mu]3-oxo-hexakis([mu]2-trichloroacetato-[kappa]2O:O')trimanganese(II,III,III)

T. Lis, V. Kinzhybalo and K. Zieba

Abstract: The title mixed-valence manganese carboxylate, [Mn3(C2Cl3O2)6O(C2H4O2)3], was synthesized starting from an acetic acid solution of Mn(CCl3COO)2·3H2O, CCl3COOH and KMnO4. The molecule features a planar trinuclear [mu]3-oxo-centered manganese(II,III,III) complex. Differences in the geometric parameters of the Mn atoms due to strong Jahn-Teller effects in the Mn3+ ions allow the metal atoms with oxidation states +2 and +3 to be distinguished.
